Satsang Nuggets videos moved to every 2 wks, not weekly

Just a quick note to let people know I've changed the Satsang Nuggets videos on Youtube to uploads once every 2 wks instead of weekly.

Big Swami's talks are a bit painful to listen to in order to find 10 minutes worth for video. His talks are geared towards the general public who go to a lady for hugs, not real sadhaks for the most part. On the other hand, Nealu's talks come from learning the hard way and years of close association with great spiritual people. And his talks are given at an ashram (with no lady there to give hugs) so most of the people in the audience are there for more genuine reasons. I will still provide the videos because I know there are devotees that do like Big Swami's talks, the same you find at current Amma darshan programs, but they're just too depressing for me to listen to on a weekly basis, because they remind me of the shallowness of it all.

Navaratri: The 9 Divine Nights

"Nava-ratri" literally means "nine nights." This festival is observed twice a year, once in the beginning of summer and again at the onset of winter.

What's the Significance of Navratri?
During Navaratri, we invoke the energy aspect of God in the form of the universal mother, commonly referred to as "Durga," which literally means the remover of miseries of life. She is also referred to as "Devi" (goddess) or "Shakti" (energy or power). It is this energy, which helps God to proceed with the work of creation, preservation and destruction. In other words, you can say that God is motionless, absolutely changeless, and the Divine Mother Durga, does everything. Truly speaking, our worship of Shakti re-confirms the scientific theory that energy is imperishable. It cannot be created or destroyed. It is always there.

Why Worship the Mother Goddess?
We think this energy is only a form of the Divine Mother, who is the mother of all, and all of us are her children. "Why mother; why not father?", you may ask. Let me just say that we believe that God's glory, his cosmic energy, his greatness and supremacy can best be depicted as the motherhood aspect of God. Just as a child finds all these qualities in his or her mother, similarly, all of us look upon God as mother. In fact, Hinduism is the only religion in the world, which gives so much importance to the mother aspect of God because we believe that mother is the creative aspect of the absolute.

Why Twice a Year?
Every year the beginning of summer and the beginning of winter are two very important junctures of climatic change and solar influence. These two junctions have been chosen as the sacred opportunities for the worship of the divine power because:
(1) We believe that it is the divine power that provides energy for the earth to move around the sun, causing the changes in the outer nature and that this divine power must be thanked for maintaining the correct balance of the universe.

(2) Due to the changes in the nature, the bodies and minds of people undergo a considerable change, and hence, we worship the divine power to bestow upon all of us enough potent powers to maintain our physical and mental balance.

Why Nine Nights & Days?
Navaratri is divided into sets of three days to adore different aspects of the supreme goddess. On the first three days, the Mother is invoked as powerful force called Durga in order to destroy all our impurities, vices and defects. The next three days, the Mother is adored as a giver of spiritual wealth, Lakshmi, who is considered to have the power of bestowing on her devotees the inexhaustible wealth. The final set of three days is spent in worshipping the mother as the goddess of wisdom, Saraswati. In order have all-round success in life, we need the blessings of all three aspects of the divine mother; hence, the worship for nine nights.

Found a youtube channel and website
that gives harmonium lessons, geared
towards different skill levels. They seem
better than most I've seen. I did notice
that he starts his scales mostly with the
thumb, piano-style, versus index-mid-thumb
like on the Iskcon dvd. I guess practicing
both ways would be of benefit in the long run.

(amma vids) Zatarraseagull Youtube account down permanently

Hey folks, just so everyone knows, my main Youtube account
(zatarraseagull) was permanently canceled (when signing in
vs.access that says 'suspended') due to the Catholic
ministry of St. Luke Productions flagging my videos
for copyright. I predicted it would happen as that
ministry hasn't really grown in 10 years or so. They're
just shooting themselves in the foot by flagging
videos that actually promote them and their cause
(the whole purpose of their ministry). I've checked
vids by others that had some from them, and they're
slowing getting flagged too.

Since I always resolved that any major computer problems
or a canceled account would mean to stop doing them
and move on, I'm choosing to do that for right now,
but will continue the weekly satsangnuggets'
uploads, and will stop once I run out of the tapes.
If I upload talks from other sources, the account
might get canceled for the same reason. But I
may try to read some from the various books
from Amma's org, as a weekly satsang vid. I'll cross
that bridge when I come to it.

I may start another Youtube account and reload some
of the vids, but right now I'm enjoying being
relieved of duty, of sorts.

Although recently more of my videos were claimed by
their respective copyright holders, they were allowed
to remain, with the company tracking the views
and ads on the page (their loss too now). But the
St. Luke Productions ministry has always been behind
the times, and are certainly making things worse for
them by causing trouble for the very people that are
aiding them, unasked. Like I said, I'm not the only
one that they're flagging.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Thought my Lalita Sahasranaam chanting
yesterday caused my 3am waking, but I'm
guessing it was the new moon. Haven't had
it happen in a while, but it's usually tied to
lunar events, you know, when you wake up
to full consciousness exactly at 3am?

According to Hinduism, even the devas go
to sleep between 3am and 6am(?) and is
a good time for sadhana. I ended up doing
archana when it happened this time because
my spine was throbbing like crazy and getting
back to sleep wasn't an option.

And whenever I've had dreams of dead relatives,
it's always been towards the later part of the morning.
That show about the Penn State paranormal investigations
does their "dead time" at 3am, to contact spirits
(it's a poor man's version of Discovery Channel's
Hauntings show).

3am is the witching hour!

"And it's not enough to say, 'Mother's my guru, Mother's my guru'. If you've got a guru, it means that you're a disciple. There are many devotees of Mother. Anybody who's got a little faith in Mother, who loves Mother, they're a devotee of Mother. But a disciple is something else, a disciple is somebody who reflects the guru, whose life is molded by the guru's example. Someone who follows the teachings of the guru. That means you've got to study Mother's teachings, you've got to associate with Mother. You've got to mold your life to Mother's ideals and what Mother says. Then only can you be a disciple, then only can you really say Mother's your guru. Otherwise it's just saying, and that's not enough."

Amma's New Year Message

January 01, 2009
Amritapuri, India

People gathered from all over the world to spend the New Year in Amritapuri. Amma was giving darshan and when midnight struck, she immediately led everyone in several minutes of chanting the world peace prayer : Om lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu - 'May all beings in the world be happy."

Then came Amma's New Year's address. "The year 2009 is taking birth in the midst of many different challenges," Amma began. "On this occasion, there are so many nascent problems upon which we need to deeply contemplate." Amma went on to mention the economic crisis, war, global warming, terrorism, increase of mental problems, the neglecting of the elderly and the deterioration of families.

"In fact, the most serious problem facing the world today is the pollution of the human mind and the increase in selfishness and cruelty." Amma said. "This is the root of all the others problems facing the world today. Everything in the world is changing-with one exception: our negative mental state! Our personality is a reflection of our mind. The ability of human beings to rise up to a situation and act is slowly disappearing. In the name of stability and competition, mankind is allowing their lives to be led by hatred, revenge and stubbornness."

Amma further stressed the importance of acting with awareness and discrimination to mitigate the problems in the world today. She lamented the fact that human beings are losing their ability to stand up and face challenges. It is only through spirituality, Amma said, that we can develop the strength that will empower us to face all the challenges life brings our way.

"In life, things rarely happen according to our expectations. This is why it is very important to develop the attitude of surrender to God. This will also help us to live in the present moment. If we learn to live in the present moment, we will be able to cheerfully accept any circumstance we may have to face in life.

"Only the present moment is in our hands. So, we must live in it joyfully, with alertness. It is said that the lifespan of a butterfly is only a few days to a week. Yet how joyously it flies around! It spreads delight and happiness to everyone. Our lives should become like this."

"We should make sure that the flame of compassion in our hearts doesn't become extinguished."

"Only a person who has known hunger will understand the pangs of hunger in another person. Only a person who has carried a heavy load will understand the strain of carrying heavy weights. If each of us really wanted to, we could make a big difference in the world. The benefit of all the good actions that we perform with a selfless attitude will definitely come back to us."

"We should develop a mind devoid of egoism-a mind that doesn't fall apart in failure, a mind that finds joy in giving and accepts adversity with love. Such a mind will never experience sorrow."

Amma concluded with a prayer: "May all our thoughts, words and actions benefit both others as well as ourselves. On this New Year's Day, let us pray that our lives become like incense sticks, spreading a beautiful fragrance to the lives of one and all."

Amma then led everyone in two bhajans-"Mata Rani" and "Kushiyonki." The latter was an ecstatic celebration of life, the former a compassionate prayer-attitudes to cultivate in 2009.

2 additional Ammachi meditation verses

These are 2 additional verses after the common
"Dhyaayaamo" one. It's from the old Mantra Maala
cassette, and I only recently acquired the words
from a local devotee who had a book that was
obviously an Indian edition only available from
amritapuri. It's chanted to a similar melody as
the first one.

I've uploaded an mp3 with all 3 verses, and a PDF
text file with the words broken up and edited for best
learning, phonetically.

For example, many times but not always, the first or
last letter is given to the adjacent word as in these examples:

Brahma Rpanam is actually pronounced "Brahmar Panam" (in food prayer)
Purnam Idam is actually pronounced "Purna Midam" (ending prayers)
Om Amriteshvaryai Namaha is pronounced "Om Mamriteshvaryai Namaha"
(Oh, if I had a nickel every time someone went running to an amma-swami to confirm this...)

Same reason why you hear discrepencies in recordings where there's 2 "a's" or an
"a" plus another vowel. Depending on which, it may be pronounced as a long "a" or
in some cases an "o". But like I said, you'll hear some people chant them as 2 vowels,
with a break, and some won't.

I've also converted the slow Amma 108 from the Mantra Maala tape and uploaded it to the
same folder. What's so bad on that cassette is that the only really worthwhile track on it,
the Amma 108, is divided between the end of side A and beginning of side B, which I've
merged in the mp3. I've also cut the bass a little because the original was so heavy that
even turned down low, it could be heard in the next room.

Fall 2009 Tour Stories?!?

It seems almost everyone I spoke to for the two weeks or so that Amma was here relayed the same message. That it was one of the most powerful experiences they've ever had with Amma.

I have to say that my experiences with our beloved Amma this last trip were extraordinary. They were perhaps the deepest I've ever experienced.

How about you?

Here is a thread for us to share our recent experiences / inspirations.

I will share this story.

The very first moments of the tour, right away it was like a miracle happened. Okay, so even though I live in San Francisco, I got in a hotel for the entire San Ramon stay. Yet, that first Sunday morning in San Ramon, I had to take a BART over. I arrived at the BART station at around 830, being told that I could get a ride and hopefully find a place on the floor for the morning meditation. So, people were there by about 845, but then they are just hanging around and yakking it up for about an hour. Me in all of my infinite patience started to get quite annoyed and crabby, wanting to just get to the Ashram. Yet, I kept my mouth shut and did my best. Somehow I didn't lay into somebody. By the time we got to the ashram it was about 945 - perhaps 15 minutes before Amma would enter the hall. I knew there would be no way that I would get a seat on the floor, perhaps not even in the hall.

By the time I got to the ashram, there was no place to sit on the floor whatsoever. The place was totally packed on that first Sunday morning. Surprise surprise. So I put my bags just outside the hall and decided just for the heck of it to walk across the floor and see if there was any place to sit -- really any place would have been fine. As soon as I get half way across the floor, right in front where Amma sits, the local stage seva coordinator asks me in a mildly panicked voice "would you like to move Amma Peetam after morning meditation, we need someone to do it". I said "ughh, well sure - but I don't even have a place to sit on the floor".. "Sit here", she says, and points right to the spot directly behind where Big Swami will sit.

I couldn't believe it. I know it doesn't sound like much, and we hear the stories all the time. But Amma knows how much it means to me to be sitting up close next to her for meditation. She knows how much clarity and wisdom comes to me when I am sitting up front during satsang. She knows what I go through in those moments. Every night of the tour, in San Ramon and Michigan, I was sitting in the same spot for the satsang. Several times Amma created miracles for me to be there. Things like this had never happened before - where I knew she was thinking about me and taking care of me and letting me know that she knew what I was going through.

Of course, expressing these external events do not capture the internal beauty of the miracles we experience around this beloved being.

Westerner's Guide to Ammachi Satsangs

from a packet I made about 10 years ago, to help newer
devotees get the most out of satsang, which Amma
blessed when I offered it to her (after pretending to
be confused).

The main portion is about 30 pages long, which I
revised a couple of weeks ago, but I don't have
the patience to fine tune it further. But it's still ok,
just a little long-winded and slightly repetitive in
places for clarity.

I've added a 3-page Introduction to this '08 revision,
to explain the original packet's history, with additional
helpful information regarding chanting Archana's effectively.

Originally the packet came with a cassette, but I'll
be uploading mp3's in about a week or so, as I
need to replace some of the tracks with better
recordings that are now available.

How is this possible in the modern day world while Amma is traveling and a guru to millions of people? It seems to me there is a shortage of gurus (especially ones with integrity) and a plentiful amount of people wishing to do spiritual practices....

I under stand that the meal prayer is
the "Brahmarpanam" from the Bhagavad Gita:

Some common dangers of the major paths

In this talk, Sw. Paramatmananda describes some common
pitfalls along the paths of Jnaana, Bhakti and Karma.

Old-timer Amma devotees will be particularly familiar
with the Karma Yoga "power trip" that used to be quite
common in the org, at least in its gross form. It's
still quite alive in the subtle realm.

And, it's common among Amma devotees to fall into the
category of passive-surrender or blind acceptance,
rather than dynamic surrender and Dharmic action as
he describes.

His statement about the importance of a living teacher
undoubtably refers to his first guru and the earlier
days with Amma, as it's rare that Amma would give
unsolicited personal advice to the masses of devotees,
(ie, to guide someone away from the pitfalls mentioned).

european tour

the beginning of the european tour was very beautiful. infact, it was magical with summer temperatures outside, blue sky and the coloured leaves falling off the trees decorating the ground. spontaneous gathering of musicians outside the venue before Devi Bhavan, it felt like a rainbow gathering.
my local sanga sang for her for an hour the first day, second part comes in Munich

now i am tempted to go to the last location of the tour as well: Dublin. even though i am completely broke the flights are just unresistably cheap and i have not been there in many years....

Darling children,

Amma knows your hearts, which are longing to see the vast sky and the beautiful earth beneath it, decorated by the warm rays of the sun, the cool moonlight and all of nature. Your minds must be longing to get just a glimpse of your friends and family. Your only friends right now must be your memories – the good and bad memories that days gone by have bestowed to you. One moment a handful of good memories gives you peace and happiness; the next moment, the guilt about mistakes you knowingly or unknowingly committed in an cursed moment might prick your conscience.

My children, we should remember that the capacity to remain happy in all circumstances is within all of us. Due to a wrong notion, we believe that only the objects of the external world can give us happiness. We remain unaware of the truth that the source of this happiness is actually within us. This misconception makes us depend more and more on the external objects, rather than seeking the real happiness, which indeed is our very own nature.

Suppose a dog finds a bone and begins chewing on it. The bone wears and tears away the dog’s own gums until they begin to bleed. But the dog, tasting the blood, thinks that it is coming from the bone. He doesn’t realize that the blood is actually coming from his own gums. So he chews more and more vigorously, relishing the taste of the blood. In the same way, we, too, believe that happiness comes from external objects. We should find strength and happiness within and become more independent.

It is the law of any country that wrongdoing should be met with punishment. But there are also innocent people who are caught in the mysterious ways of fate and are being punished. Either way, my children, you should remember that these are all opportunities given by God to you, and to anyone who is traveling down the wrong path to reflect and mend their ways. The past experiences and the punishment that followed may be seen as the dark period of your life. But the lessons we can learn during these times are priceless. As we go through the heat of these experiences, if we can dive deep into their intensity, we will find many pearls.

These are the precious gems that will illuminate your future. If you can find these gems, the mistakes committed in the past and the punishment received will gain a new dimension that you have not known before. This, indeed, is the sky-like inner expansiveness of knowledge and awareness, the capacity to imbibe and understand the sorrows and mental agony of others, and the maturity and strength to hold them close to you and console them with love and compassion.

Blessed are you, my children, if you can utilize the experiences you are going through right now to achieve this expansiveness. Above all this, you must pray for God’s Grace. Amma lovingly prays to the Supreme Self for her darling children to attain inner strength, peace and happiness.

Satsang Nuggets

I've started a new Youtube channel called *Satsang Nuggets*
so I can upload sections of various spiritual talks from my
cassette collection.

I'm starting with Swami Paramatmananda's series that I had
converted last year. That's when I got the idea for the download-
samples, but then I noticed that theammashop website had
some online samples, however poor quality, and not the entire
series. If I had known it would've taken this long to get them
to market, I would've spent more time editing out more of the
clicks and coughs, that I can now tweak further for these videos.

This first video is a mini-homage to Swami, as it's named Stories
of Saints. The first photo, I think, was sent to me by Lutz years
ago. The rest are from the River of Love DVD. I'm sure there's
some on the vhs tapes I have, but I don't have time to search
through them. The images are interspersed with scans of the
cassette cover.

Future videos will likely have nature-scenes interspersed with
the cover-scans, to keep your attention focused on what's being
said. The time limit for YT vids is 10 minutes, so I'll try to find
complete topics to upload.

I'll try to upload at least one talk per week, and continue on to
Big Swami's talks after that. When those are done, I have
some Christian talks on cassette that are nice, and I can always just
read passages from books for videos.

If I can settle on a day of the week for uploading the new ones for
the Satsang Nuggets account, I'll mention it on the homepage
of that channel. Otherwise, this first video counts for this week.

question from a newbie in Chicago

I just saw mother last night and it was amazing, I'm new to this and had only heard of Amma recently. Anyhow when I recieved Darshan she put a white mark on my forehead, can anyone explain that to me and the significance. Ohh and this experience of being in her presence truly changed me so it's nice to see others who have come to live in the love mother has re shone to us and hopefully she is able to do this for more and more.

Hindu Temple

Yesterday, I visited the local Hindu temple and attended their Bhajan hour and stayed for Haarti. I had been invited by one of the Indian dancers I cast in my show last month. While talking to her during lunch after the service she told me how every time she rehearsed with her group her mother performed puja. Funny how so much of this has tied into my life this summer.

It was very interesting and I plan on returning next week. My daughter came with me and loved it, too. She's usually not that open to anything other than Catholic services. Does anyone else on this board attend their local Hindu temple?

New York City

So all is done in NYC, and Amma is giving Her darshan tonight in DC. I have to admit that I did not get to spend much time with Amma, though I was so close to her doing seva. Working the line at that pace, one can only catch a glimpse of Her. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything, it was the best seva in the world.

Actually, maybe the above statement was not as true, I think the best seva was the Atma Puja water seva. After Amma blessed the holy water, we had just minutes to run up the stairs to the balcony at Manhattan center to get the water to aout 500 people, lids and all. It was the greatest blessing toserve the people of New York, my people, as if they were my own guests at my guru's feet. The thing that touched me the most was the pure appreciation of each and every person I gave water to. Their eyes just lit up as I passed them the lids to the plastic cups, as they held out their hands as though they were receiving holy communion or something (I was raised Roman Catholic) I could just see the effect that Amma had on each and every one of them. This was not the New York that I know, but was a vacuum of love.

I hope that this post translates what I experienced. After the rush of getting holy water to everyone, I went backstage and cried. For the first time in my life, I felt the love of serving others, it was true love. If asked to do this seva again, I woudl not hesitate

This stotra (hymn which praises) occurs in Brahmanda purana (Old epic of the universe) in the Chapter on discussion between Hayagreeva and Agasthya.Hayagreeva is an incarnation of Vishnu with the horse head and is believed to be the storehouse of knowledge. Agasthya is one of the great sages of yore who is one of the stars of the constellation great bear. At his request Hayagreeva taught him the most holy 1000 names of Lalitha .

Parama shiva is one of the trinity of Hindu pantheons who is in charge of destruction. He married Sathi, the daughter of Daksha. Daksha and Paramashiva were not getting on well and consequently he did not invite Paramashiva for one of the great fire sacrifices that he conducted. However Sathi went to attend the function in spite of Paramashiva’s protest. Daksha insulted her husband and she jumped in to the fire and ended her life. Consequently at the behest Of Paramashiva Daksha was killed and later given life with a goat’s head. However this incident upset Paramashiva and he entered into deep meditation.Sathi took birth as the daughter of the mountain(Parvathy) Himalayas and started doing penance on Shiva for getting him as her husband. The devas faced a very great enemy in Sura Padma who had a boon that he could be killed only by a son of Shiva and Parvathy. So to wake Shiva from his deep meditation the devas deputed Manmatha, the God of love who shot his flower arrows at Paramashiva. Paramashiva woke up and opened his third eye and burnt the God of love into ashes. The Devas and Rathi Devi the wife of Manmatha requested Paramashiva to give life to Manmatha. Heeding for their request Paramashiva stared at the ashes of Manmatha.From the ashes came Bhandasura Who made all the world as impotent and ruled from the city called Shonitha pura.He started troubling the devas.The devas then sought the advice of Sage Narada who advised them to conduct a fire sacrifice. From the fire rose Sri Lalitha Tripura Sundari.

She was extremely beautiful, having dark thick long hair with scent of Champaka, Asoka and Punnaga flowers, having the musk thilaka on her forehead, Having eyelids which appeared as if it is the gate of the house of God of love ,having eyes which were like fish playing in the beauteous lake of her face, Having nose with studs which shined more than the stars, Having ears with sun and moon as studs, having cheeks which were like mirror of Padmaraga, Having beautiful rows of white teeth, Chewing Thamboola with camphor, having voice sweeter than the sound emanating from Veena of Sarswathi, Having such a beautiful smile that Lord Shiva himself could not take his eyes off, Wearing Mangala soothra and necklaces with beautiful shining dollars, Having breasts which were capable of buying the invaluable love of Kameswara, having row of faint beautiful hair raising from her belly, having stomach with three pretty folds, wearing red silk tied with a string with red bells. Having thighs which steal the heart of Kameshwara, Having knees which looked like crowns made of precious gems, having voluptuous legs, having upper part of the feet resembling the back of tortoise, Having feet which resembled the lamps made of gems which could dispel worries from the mind of devotees and a body with the golden red colour. She was given in marriage to Lord Kameshwara and made to stay in Sree Nagara at the top of Maha Meru Mountain.

Sree nagara had 25 streets circling it. They are made of iron, steel, copper, lead, alloy made of five metals, silver, gold, the white Pushpa raga stone, the red Padmaraga stone. Onyx, diamond, Vaidoorya, Indra neela (topaz), pearl, Marakatha, coral, nine gems and mixture of gems and precious stones. In the eighth street was the forest of Kadambas. This is presided by Syamala. In the fifteenth street live the Ashta Digh palakas.In the sixteenth lives Varahi alias Dandini who is her commander in chief. Here Syamala also has a house. In the seventeenth street live the different Yoginis.In the eighteenth street lives Maha Vishnu.In the nineteenth street lives Esana, in the twentieth Thara Devi, twenty first Varuni , the twenty second Kurukulla who presides over the fort of pride, twenty third Marthanda Bhairawa, twenty fourth the moon and twenty fifth Manmatha presiding over the forest of love. In the center of Srinagara is the Maha Padma Vana(The great lotus forest) and within it the Chintamani Griha (The house of holy thought),In its north east is the Chid agni kunda and on both sides of its eastern gate are the houses of Manthrini and Dhandini.On its four gates stand the Chaduramnaya gods for watch and ward. And within it is the Sri chakra.In the center of Sri Chakra on the throne of Pancha brahmas on the Bindu Peeta(dot plank) called sarvanandamaya(universal happiness) Sits Maha Tripura Sundari.In the Sri Chakra are the following decorations viz., The square called Trilokya mohanam(most beautiful in the three worlds), The sixteen petalled lotus called Sarvasa paripoorakam(fulfiller of all desires), the eight petalled lotus called Sarvasamksopanam(the all cleanser), the sixteen corner figure called Sarva sowbagyam(all luck),the external ten cornered figure called Sarvartha sadhakam (giver of all assets), the internal ten cornered figure called Sarva raksha karam(All protector), the eight cornered figure called Sarva roka haram(cure of all diseases), triangle called Sarva siddhi pradam(giver of all powers) and the dot called Sarvananda mayam(all pleasures).

The devas prayed her to kill Bhandasura. When she started for the war with Bandasura, she was accompanied by the powers called anima, mahima etc, Brahmi, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Mahendri, Chamundi, Maha Lakshmi, , Nitya Devaths and Avarna Devathas who occupy the Sri Chakra.While Sampatkari devi was the captain of the elephant regiment, Aswarooda devi was the captain of the cavalry. The army was commanded by Dhandini riding on the Charriot called Giri Chakra assisted by Manthrini riding on the chariot called Geya Chakra. Jwala malini protected the army by creating a fire ring around it. ParaShakthi rode in the center on the chariot of Sri Chakra.Nithya Devi destroyed a large chunk of Bandasura’s armies , Bala Devi killed the son of Bandasura, and Manthrini and Dhandini killed his brothers called Vishanga and Vishukra. When the Asuras created blockade for the marching army, Sri Lalitha Tripura sundari created Ganesha with the help of Kameshwara to remove the blockade.Then Bandasura created the asuras called Hiranyaksha, Hiranya Kasipu and Ravana.The Devi created the ten avatars of Vishnu and destroyed them. She killed all his army using Pasupathastra and killed him with Kameshwarasthra.The gods then praised her.She then recreated Manmatha for the good of the world. This story is contained in the first 84 names of the first 34 slokas of Lalitha Sahasra nama .and all together contains one thousand names. This is also called the Rahasya Nama Sahasra(the thousand secret names).Reading it , meditating on the meaning of the names would lead to the fulfillment of all the wishes of the devotees.

Amma works miracles

I have an interesting story to share,
I have been praying to Amma to make me into a nun or a swami, I just truly wanted to renounce worldy desires and commit my life to my spiritual practice, many astrologers have told me that I will have a child and get married, but I kept praying to her when in front of her or at times and doing her mantra and doing spiritual practice every single day. I read in one of her books how sometimes if one truly yearns for something and does their practice, that mother will grace them, 2 years later after my first prayer it happened, somehow Amma has arranged events in my life where i burned up all my karma with relationships, and finaly I became a nun, all with her grace, she is truly the ultimate guru, with her grace anything is possible, no matter what religion you are as long as you have a pure intention in your heart I truly beleive that Amma is a living saint and is open to helping everyone and anyone who wished to grow spiritualy. We are all so lucky!

Self-Knowledge, has burnt away the very bondage of actions in a whiff,

Shoshanam – drying up; Bhava-sindhosh-cha – the endless sea of

true wealth; Guroh – of the guru; padodakam – the water left behind
after washing the feet; samyak – fully; tasmai – to that; Shri –
glorious; Guruve – Guru; Namah – my salutations.

Even by the very sipping of the charanamruta (the water with which the
feet of guru are washed), we get blessed by the eternal wealth (of
liberating knowledge), and which dries up the endless ocean of seeking
& the subsequent sorrows. My Salutations to the lotus-feet of that
glorious Gurudev. ___________________________

11. Na Guror-adhikam tattvam na Guror-adhikam tapah.
Tattva-gyanat-param nasti tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

Na – There is no; Guror – than Guru; adhikam – higher; tattvam –
truth; na – there is no; Guror – than Guru; adhikam – higher; tapah –
penance; Tattva-gyanat-param – higher than the knowledge of truth
imparted by the guru; nasti – does not exist; tasmai – to that; Shri –
glorious; Guruve – Guru; Namah – my salutations.

There is no higher truth than the Guru, no higher penance than
(service to) the Guru, and there is nothing higher than Realisation of
the Knowledge of the truth imparted by the Guru.
My salutations to such a Gurudev, who is himself that very timeless
truth (and who has taken up a form to bless his disciples like us with
real knowledge). ___________________________

12. Man-naathah Shri Jagan-nathah Mat-guru-shri jagad-guruhu.
Mad-atma sarva-bhutatma tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.

Man-naathah – My Lord; Shri Jagan-naathah – is the Lord of the
universe; mat-guru – My teacher; Shri-Jagad-Guruhu – is the Teacher of
the entire universe; Mad-atma –

My Lord is the Lord of Universe; My teacher is the teacher of the

14. Tvameva mata cha pita tvameva tvameva bandhushcha sakha tvameva.
Tvameva vidya dravinam tvameva tvameva sarvam Amrteshwaryai Ma.

Tvameva – You alone; Mata – the mother; cha – and; pita-tvameva – you

Shorter regular darshans

This year in DC I noticed at the evening program I went to, the darshan was so quick, almost India-like. The swami's have always described the vacuum-like system that devotees in India have to succumb to, but actually seeing it in a video this weekend was rather shocking. In the footage I saw, it's literally like it's been described: an attendant is pushing you into place for a quick embrace, and then another quickly pulls you away as another attendant loads the next one. Very gear-like. It's shocking to see that the darshans here are leaning that way, but at least she slowed down for Devi Bhava.

I'm guessing the speed is also why they had chairs for the darshan line, all the way up to kneeling for your hug. In the past, you'd scoot on the floor for the last portion. But, moving along so fast, it was easier in the chairs.

Perhaps it'd be easier on Amma's body to move to an appointment system like Mother Meera? Maybe where you register and are given a time window for your darshan? I'd rather have one long hug than 2 quick or semi-quick ones, even if it's one per stop. I'm not sure your average American devotee would bother with the India-style short darshans if it goes that way. But, I did notice there seemed to be more Indian devotees at the program than what Ive noticed in the past. It used to be yogi-hippie-ville, and this weekend was 50% Indian, it looked like.

Need a room in Boston

So who's going to Boston? I was thinking about reserving my own room for this retreat, but finances aren't as good as I'd like. Does anyone have a floor for a chica like me to crash? I can split the room cost.

Receiving a mantra

Does Amma always give a mantra at Devi Bhava? I'd like a mantra from Amma but I missed Devi Bhava when she was near me this year. Now I'm bummed because I'll probably have to wait another year before I can see her again. I'm just wondering if there's any other way to receive a mantra from her. I did receive a hug from her two years ago and she was saying something like "ma, ma, ma." Does anyone know what this means?

any advice for a newbie in Boston?

Hi everyone, i started looking at your posts about a month ago. I have never blogged or chatted in this computer world but my love and seeking for Amma led me to you. I heard about Amma last summer, the same day I went for her Darshan in the Boston area. I have been a seeker (and have known grace through the experience of a few religions) my whole life. So like you I am grateful beyond words that she is on this earth with us. I began meditating holding her doll about 6 months ago and so much healing in every aspect of my life has taken place since then. I have been reading about her, studying awaken children, listening to music from ashrams in my car. It's like I can't get enough.... Now I plan to go this July to the Boston retreat. I live about an hour and a half away so I figured the hotel rooms should be for the people who travel far for her. The thing is, I don't know anyone else who does this. So is there anything I should know or be prepared for? I am signed up to take the AIM course and I notice something about a time of 11:00 to midnight as the first meeting....

Amma's physical condition

It was so painful to see her having such a hard time getting up and walking. I was told she was hurt in darshan in India before arriving in Seattle and of course won't take the time needed to rest and care for her body.

it makes me so sad to see her in pain.

This video is awesome and shows the sort of support a simple hug can get. This started in Australia (where this video takes place) and has blossomed all over the world. Wouldn't it be great if groups of Amma devotees started a campaign to do this stuff too? With all the talk about how Amma will not be able to do what she does forever (limits of the human body), one of the best ways to honor her would be to do what she does, no matter how small of a scale.

after the crescendo of the last few days in san ramon, it feels like the aftermath of taking ecstacy - suddenyl some powerful force is missing.

at the moment i am inspired to stay in the presence of amms's vast energy field for as long as i can. i heard when i was in san ramon that some groups of people doing a car-pool or van-pool and following amma on her US tour.

anyone is doing something like this? know who to contact etc etc etc?

just to add to the below post by Bala, Amma also has asked everyone to chant the 1000 names as much as possible today (14th) and tomorrow (15th), as this extremely inauspicious astrological event is occuring today into tomorrow. this Mars conjunction (no clue what that is) issue that is said to be the cause of Amma's announcement is a planetary config worse than the one on 9/11. Got this from Surya in san ramon. several groups have been receiving the above info from people in san ramon.
