Seattle Devi Bhava 2008:

So it has been reported by a few sources that our most benevolent Queen is wearing either:

A gold or cream colored choli (the blouse under Her sari) followed by a beautiful red, actually more like coral red sari. Lots of gold throughout with gold trim and green leaved accents. I bet She just sparkles and shimmers!!

I was highly amused today when I saw on amritapuri.org that the newest discussion/news posting was the debate over what color Amma's blue-green sari was! I thought it very ironic, given the recent short debate on here on the subject. :D Guess we people on here aren't the only ones that had conflicting views.

The boards are so quiet! I wish I was in CA. :( But alas, work and scheduling did not allow. But on the plus, through Amma's grace I got an interview for the radiography program I'm going for, which is the second step in applying. Only 30 people get interviews. Their earliest time slot is the day before I leave for Albuquerque. Talk about cutting it close, since I decided to go to the Albuquerque one to avoid scheduling conflicts in case I got an interview! lol

Sorry for going off on a tangent on the Sari board, though. ^^ I figure no one is around to mind.
    Jai Ma!

Hey Katie CONGRATS on the interview!! I know how you have been waiting for this ;o)

So that IS funny about the colors, I guess just like the mystery of Amma Herself Her children are stumped on the color She wore as well. ;o) Funny funny funny ;o)

Hehe, thanks! Ya, the interview is important since it still means I'm in the running to get into this year's class.

Definitely, Amma is a mystery even to Her children. Quite an amusing leela.

you guys aren't the only ones not in San Ramon now! Im still in Cali, but am in rehearsals now for the opera opening this weekend. Its so cool to have spent all that time with Mother the past week, then translate that same passion to my art. Im finding both go hand in hand, as Im singing better since spending time with mother and am more focused! I have to admit that Im glad for the reprieve from Amma's grueling schedule. Still there's no place like home...San Ramon Ashram

Yes Madhu, I feel that when we are alligned with the sweet essence of the purest love in our heart, then naturally whatever is on our heart, or things we hold near and dear to us, like things we love to do best, etc.. naturally flow in such beautiful harmony. Whenever I draw around Amma, I feel so much more intune with the colors. Maybe it is because of more stillness of mind too.. and Amma's love sweet love ;o)

Shadia, I am sooooo excited for you to get to experience the most happenin place on earth in a couple of weeks. May you feel right at home in Amma's warm embrace. Look forward to meeting you too ;o)

          Katie,

I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks. Congratulations on landing that interview.

Bala, I look forward to meeting you as well. I am so excited about my first experience with Amma and can't wait for a reprieve from all the stress I have been going thru.

Madhurima, I wish I could hear your beautiful voice in person. I think I heard you on the web somewhere but can't recall where. All I know is that you sing like an angel.

Looking forward to making new friends in Albuquerque in a few weeks.

Thanks for the compliment on my voice Shadia, that's very sweet. i hope no one gets discouraged by my posts about dealing with pain and anger around Amma, being in Her presence just brings it all to the light. Guess that's the nature of being a Kali devotee, wanting to get to the truth of it all and being released from pain. i don't think a lot of people around Amma go through this, at least not from what I've seen. I think some just want a spiritual band-aid. For me being around Amma can be a violent purging

This will sound that its coming across as negative, but...

who cares what the color is of *anything* that amma is wearing?

As I see it it's just a distraction to appease yourself on insignificant happenings that have no bearing on ones practice.

I wonder what Amma would say about devotess who seem to be so enraptured over her color dress?

                Namah Sivaya Justin,

"This will sound that its coming across as negative, but...
who cares what the color is of *anything* that amma is wearing?"

~Justin this does not sound negative, IMO, it just does not sound like something that interests you thats all. Even though we all emerge from the same source, it does not mean we all have the same interests. Thank goodness for this because variety has so much flavor. ;o)

I can see how you make think it is a distraction, though with all the other distractions (minus sadhana etc..)on this spinning maya we call Earth, I would much rather get lost in the colors of Devi than other things to occupy my thoughts and my mind that may keep my mind from God altogether.

"I wonder what Amma would say about devotess who seem to be so enraptured over her color dress?"

I wonder too.. funny this actually reminds of a time I was wearing a simple sari with pink roses throughout the sari and Amma started telling me how much She liked the print I was wearing... I never thought She cared about colors etc...until that moment, it was a very surreal moment.

It truly is all a lila though isn't it, even Amma/ Devi takes part in the lila by taking the form of the most supreme Goddess for us to gaze at and worship..

heehee. The fact that She even takes a form in which to hug, console, and teach all of us ignorant and insignificant beings intent on destroying ourselves is such a leela. Amma has a sense of humor for sure. In the end none of it really matters since we are all nothing. What is important is how we live our lives while living. If some of us find pleasure in Amma's sari, so what? What else should we be doing? Meditating? Who is the one meditating? seeking enlightenment? Our ego is the one who does, it is our ego seeking enlightenment. Life has gotten way too serious around here :)

Last night Amma wore an absolutely gorgeous dark red sari with lots of gold accents - was there green in it also? Hard to tell, she was radiating so brightly it was difficult to see the exact colors of the dress.

Right. But, to realize this and still occupy ones mind and being with such menial and trivial thoughts such as colors takes away from ones practice and lowers oneself to such insignificant matters. i.e. your mind is still wandering, so to justify what your mind wanders to does not help you out one iota.

i guess everyone is entitled to their opinions. I don't really think colors are menial and trivial, they play a large role in spirituality. The colors represent deities, grahas, emotions, chakras, etc. How are we to know why Amma chooses the color of Her sari and for whhat purpose. I was once at a devi Bhava in San Ramon where mars was in an auspicious sign trining both Jupiter and saturn I think.. My jyotishi friend thought that She might dress in a red sari to signify the power of mars that evening, and he was correct! She was dressed in a beautiful blood red sari...I cried when I saw her

Last nite/this morning's sari was an absolutely perfect shade of royal purple. it was incredible.
Amma has been wearing some gorgeous saris.

and regarding the insignificance of sari colors - i disagree. devotional worship is all about the beauty of flowers, the intoxicating scent of incense, the joyful sounds of music and ecstatic singing. it sounds like you may be more on a path of jnana rather devotion, justin, where such things mean little to you but bring the bhakti all the more closer to the Goddess herself.

That purple sari in LA was absolutely brilliant! The border of the sari and choli were finely threaded with a very beautiful white gold threading, sooooo stunning!!

And the love She poured out .. WOW!! We are all sooooo blessed to have incarnated and to be walking with our most beloved Amma in these times!!

                                              Madhurima,

Words cannot describe the 3 and 1/2 days of watching, touching and sensing Amma. It was something I will remember the rest of my ilfe and hope to relive again in the future. It was an amazing experience and truly confirmed what I felt the first time I had my revelation. Since I have been home I've spent the days praying, thinking about Amma, dreaming about her, dreaming I was in line for darshan and generally on an Amma high! I've talked to no one besides my husband about my experience because words can't truly convey the experience to someone who doesn't know about Amma.

We've decided to skip Dallas because fuel is too high and I really needed the rest after staying up all night for Devi Bhava. I could still change my mind today and drive to Dallas since it's only 4 hours and I have gone back and forth about it but I do have to be at my studio tomorrow night and would not want to show up half dead.

I might add that Amma confirmed many beliefs I already hold true. Hearing her speak and listening to her parables either confirmed my thoughts or added more for me to think about.

It was wonderful to meet Katie, Pritam and Bala. All are such beautiful souls.

I'm still ruminating about many more things I learned or became aware of and will post more as I can put it down in writing.

I primarily bring clothes, any book I'm reading for the ride (I fly down), any small objects I want blessed (mala or murti, etc), a cushion, a very small pad of paper and a pen to write down anything that comes to mind, anything I want to give Amma (I made a flower garland this year for her, last year I bought one) though these can be bought on site, and of course the normal hairbrush/toothbrush/deodorant. You may also want to bring a small container that you can seal tightly to put your blessed water in. From the atma puja, all the participants get a small cup of holy water blessed by Amma during the puja. Some people drink theirs right there, but you have the option of bringing it home. I had to pour my scant amount into a empty waterbottle last year because I didn't know. And a waterbottle is a good idea to bring, though you can buy water on site. I have been having the hardest problem finding an eyemask for sleeping. lol
