Does anyone have copies of her Bhajan cassette #2 and #4? The law of attrition has taken them from me and I'm so sad. I know the community is of mixed mind with regards to her, but hers are the only bhajans which truly move me and I am really upset that I've misplaced these tapes. I'll happily make a donation to the MA center to cover the "replacement value" of them.... Can anyone help??

I have tape #4. Would it be easier if I converted them to mp3 for you to download? I might be able to make a cassette copy if the dual-player in my shed works. The other 2 I have only have one functioning, so I can't dub with them.

For the other cassette, it's possible the Washington DC satsang bookstore coordinator has it in stock, so just email them. The inventory used to be online, but they've taken it down.
    • Tom, I would love to have a copy of tape #4 and/or MP3s (though you might have to give instructions on how to get them onto my Ipod!).

I'll check with the DC satsang. Thanks for the tip.

      Do we know each other?

Look at the darkness within and you'll see me... just kidding.

Seriously, hmmm. Jennifer from DC/NY/London. I'm guessing your maiden name begins with B. If you were from the DC area, then I'd be the youngest of the 3 Tom's you would've known in the Amma crowd back then. If that's you at all.

I'll try to get to that tape this weekend, will probably do the mp3's. I've gotten better at "tagging" files with the album, artists, etc.
        • Yup. Maiden name B. So you're not Tom S. or Tom W. Got it. I went to your apt. for training once. Thanks so much for this. Now I just need to find tape 2!!!

That's weird running into you Jen, I think I just bumped into Carolyn on youtube, both of you within a couple days...

Haven't tested the sound quality in my car like I usually like to do, but these should be adequate:

            www.box.net/shared/r7i5px4nq4

            1. Download the songs and graphic into a folder.
            2. Open ITUNES and click File--> Add Folder To Library
            3. Then click "Recently Added" on left toolbar to see it.
            4. To add album cover, click on View --->as Grid
            5. Double-click the blank album cover to bring up the list of songs again
            6. Look at the Bottom Left of screen for something that says "Drag Album art here" or something like that.
            7. Click and drag the jpeg to that area from another window that has it showing (like Windows Explorer)
            8. Wait and it will now show up with the album cover.

The original recording varied in it's quality but the worst part was the great range of volume on the tracks, meaning you had to turn down the volume in the middle of the song because it'd get too loud (little to no mastering of the original recordings). So I applied some software fixes to get it under control. All were done with the automatic fix except Just You and Me which had more bass than the others and it sounded weird with the autofix, so I did some compression manually, something I don't know too much about. Some songs were louder or softer than the others which I've hopefully fixed.

Still, I couldn't fix where the lead voice was louder and clearer (or more highs) than the backing vocals. But I did re-center the stereo left/right, which was probably caused by my tape player. There might be some places on a song or two where either the original or my tape player created minor static (Darshanam Ambike).

            Mp3 files tagged as follows:

            Artist: Swi. Amritaprana
            Album: Swi. Amritaprana Bhajans 4
            Genre: Bhajans
            Year: 1999
            Quality: 320kbps

I will leave these up through Friday for anyone that wants them.

Ah see, that's why I like to test conversions under different situations.

I deleted tracks 6, 7, 8 and will re-post corrected files at the same link later.
Track 7 sounded way too shrill, giving me a headache with the high frequencies
on the backing vocals. 6 and 8 were a little that way too. If someone finds a problem
on the first five, let me know but in general all the tracks don't have much bass.

Check back after 9pm eastern for the corrected 6-8 files.

ok ok. I EQ'd out some of the higher frequencies on 6-8, 7 being the worst (Srishtiyum Niye). But in case you think it's too much (I'm sensitive to higher frequencies) I've uploaded both the original and highcut versions. It's the backing vocals that really stick an icepick in my ear, but then again I was testing it at high volume in a car. Being inexperienced, playing with the EQ on conversions too much ends up in losing quality, besides taking longer to render. Up to you which version to keep.

I've re-uploaded all the song files, because I now know how to tag the files with the album cover, so hopefully that'll show up automatically as long as you downloaded it to the same folder. Or just follow the instructions from the earlier post.

Click on individual files or "Download Folder" for a 134mb zipped file
